How this calculator works
It applies the 2026 federal income-tax brackets to your income after the standard deduction, adds Social Security (6.2% up to the annual wage base) and Medicare (1.45%, plus the 0.9% surtax on high earners), and applies your state’s income tax — nothing for the nine no-tax states, a single rate for flat-tax states, and the graduated brackets for the rest. It then splits the result across your chosen pay schedule.
What it assumes (and leaves out)
- Uses the 2026 standard deduction for your filing status — not itemized deductions.
- Excludes pre-tax deductions like 401(k), HSA and health premiums, which lower your taxable pay.
- Excludes tax credits (child tax credit, EITC, etc.).
- Excludes city and local income taxes (e.g. New York City) and state disability/payroll add-ons.
- State income tax is approximated from state brackets on your federally-taxable income; states with their own deductions will differ slightly.
Because of those factors, treat the result as a solid estimate of your paycheck, not an exact figure. Your real take-home depends on your W-4 and the deductions you choose.
